Thanks. I'm definitely putting these in an album, same with every coin I own. Just trying to collect as much knowledge as I can before dumping some coins down on these.

Use a Dansco album if you're serious about collecting them. They aren't as expensive as some people say. I say collect the coins in MS. MS65 if you can afford it, but that's nothing compared to the price once it hits BU. High AU to low MS to fill up the album, then you can upgrade (unless you're the kind of person that likes to just go for the high grade right off the bat).

i think a lof of them have weak strikes so some ms ones could look like ef's.

Yup, I only use Dansco's. Have like 8 others at the moment. I think lower MS grades would be doable for sure.

ceaton, it's been my experience, that this is a series you really want to take your time with. If you have a dealer you work with, buy all your coins hands on. I've found that even nice pictures tend to enhance the appearence of Peace dollars. Returned many of them, looked great until I got them in my hands. Eye appeal means everything. |

Peace dollars are the toughest in my opinion. Strikes are all over the place, I put a few sets together years ago and did it on eye appeal. If I liked the coin, it was added. I have since added a few slabbed 1928's and a 1935S or two in higher grades.

creaton......... That's a great idea.....putting together a "Peace" album... I think I've got enough to get started myself !...  But, I don't have a "complete" album of anything yet ! I really need to focus on "one" thing and stay on it like a bulldog!......I've yet to "taste" that satisfaction of completing an album of any denomination coin......A Peace album might be easier to do as well..(in the sense of "upgrading" later once it's filled) Edited by eaglefoot

the only thing that would be hard to do I think is drop th 1800 for 1934s ms 60 cause even though the 1928 is expensive it isn't as much in higher grades as the 34s

I love the PEACE series, and yesterday while at the local hobby shop, I picked up a 1922 that was celaned, but for $13 who cares

I plan on doing the Peace $1 series after I finish my Washington quarters 32-64. I already have a few and it is a relatively easy series to complete. It will be challenging though to find nice eye appealing coins with good strikes. |

I've been working on a Peace set for about a year now, and the thing that really stands out is how difficult it is to find really nice, unslabbed MS coins with great eye appeal that aren't 1922 or 1923 dates. Most of the other years I have come across have little to no luster, poor strikes, ugly toning, etc. they can be beautiful coins in great condition, but also really ugly or drab. ebay, Coin Shows, Shops, it really doesn't seem to matter where I look, they are harder to find than I thought they would be. I suggest sticking to your guns and buy only ones you really like. Eventually the right coin will come your way. Good luck. Jim |
