Oldephriam, your grandfatherly experience provides a lesson for many of us collectors to heed: we must expose young people to the rewarding hobby!
I have a friend nearly 80 years old who has never even shown or discussed his coin collection with any of his five grand children. He works on the collection in the complete privacy of his cellar, and keeps it locked up when he is not accessing the coins. He says the kids are not interested. Little wonder. What a shame.

My Grandpa taught me how to look for silver and wheat pennies at about that age, and it paid off!

Nice story, Oldephriam. Thanks for sharing. For those who haven't seen it, here's the Zimbabwe one hundred trillion dollar note. I bought a handful of these in the $2 to $4 range a few years back, and they're still plentiful:

Oldephriam! Quote: I bought a handful of these in the $2 to $4 range a few years back, and they're still plentiful Plentiful, yes, but you'll pay a heck of a lot more than $4 these days. Probably 20-25x that. I spent about $20 for mine a few years ago.

Great story. I gave my son a very nice complete LWC collection when he graduated from college ten years ago, which he indicated the other day that he "put away and hasn't looked at since." Shoulda thought that one through.

Did you tell your granddaughter that the 100 Trillion dollar bill could not buy nearly as much as she thought?
