Last year I had a chest of world coins, and I left it on a shelf for several months. Then, when we moved temporarily I went looking for the chest but to no avail. It might have been packed away but no one recalls doing so. It will probably get found sooner or later.

It's probably at the bottom of a box. Have you unpacked everything? I hope you find them.

@AgcoinAu, I read this post a long time ago and I would like to state that I think of you every time I have people over and show them my coins. You, a man I know not, has had an astounding affect on my life. :) Did you ever find them?

I won an ebay auction consisting of a page of 20 coins in 2x2s. In the photo was a large cent in the upper left. I opened the package and that pocket was missing the large cent. I looked around for it thinking it fell out when I opened the package. I asked the seller if it was lost at their place. They never found it. Where did it go?

I lost a bunch of coins a while ago (don't remember specifically when). I can't seem to remember their specific type, age, or precious metal content either. I just remember they were some very valuable coins on a ship going from some place to another place (my memory is bad ). I'm assuming they are at the bottom of the sea somewhere by now . If someone finds them, please let me know. Seriously though, it's nice to see that many of these lost coins didn't stay lost forever. I think I'm sensing a theme that when we handle our coins with high sentimental value, we should never take our eyes off of them! Here's my (real) lost coin story: When I was nine years old, I was at the LCS with my mom going through the 10 cents each Wheat cent cauldron and she found a 1909 with a very faint VDB. I was so excited because I had not been collecting for long and had recently read the story about the 1909-VDB. And, to me, 1909 was really old. My mom passed away the following year. Needless to say, this was one of my most cherished coins. Somewhere along the way (I think around 9th or 10th grade) when I wasn't collecting as much anymore, I took my collection out from the plastic tub under my bed specifically to view this coin. It wasn't there! I turned my collection inside out and upside down looking for it without success. After that, I actually avoided looking at through my collection for several years (although I still added yearly proof sets) because I was so upset I had lost it. Then one day it just turned up in the plastic tub. It must have been there all along. It is now my most protected coin - and still most valuable (to me) - in my collection. It represents one of the few specific memories I have of my mom. Edit: Oh, and it's my avatar now

I recently lost 4 coins from the Dutch East Indies Company. My wife cleaned them away and put them in a box somewhere and we can't find them. Fortunately they're in a large package so they'll show up one day.
Talking about that... she once moved my whole collection to a different place without notifying me. Losing a coin? How about losing a collection?
In her defense, we were getting visitors and then the house needs to be tidy and clean. According to me, coins are very tidy (though rather not cleaned, thanks), so coins laying around shouldn't be there. So I think it's also my bad there.
