I believe you may have overpaid at $35 each if the pic of one of the morgans is indicative of what you bought.

That looks to be a scan, common date in BU condition value is $35 or slightly more?

mkman123, I agree 100% that you are right. I took them to the local coin show on Sunday and I was informed that many of them were dipped and wire brushed. Even the ones with full details.
Dealers wouldn't pay $17 for them. I talked with my neighbor and he returned my money... WHEW!

Very sporting of him to take them back, but then again he is your neighbor. I doubt you and he'd be talking for a few days if it was understood one had inadvertently been taken advantage of by the other.
Did you end up buying the silver?

Glad you were able to return. I was about to reply that $35 for a random lot of Morgans is extremely steep unless you have a chance to review the lot first. Any cleaned coin, for example, is going to be worth melt.

Can someone explain what indicated the coin was cleaned by the photo?
I am trying to learn to spot cleaned coins, and some are obvious with the swirl marks or overly perfect look, but this one I am confused about what clues gave it away as cleaned.

A complete lack of luster with at least AU sharpness suggests overdipping.
