Coin photography is like a whole 'nother hobby. Some coins are tough to get pictures of that make them look like they do in hand. I've been learning, but I've found a few things
- its 90% about the lighting, only 10% about the camera
- post-image processing is not "altering". Its necessary to make the shot look like the coin in hand, unless you spend hours trying to adjust it on the camera
- Proof coins and deeply toned coins of any kind are very hard to photograph and require some technique
- The perfect lighting which gets the color right is not the perfect lighting to get the luster right. Highly lustrous, colorful coins are very, very hard to capture as they appear in hand in a single photo.

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome! Andrew99 had a lot of truth there I can relate to. I have not tried to alter after pressing the button. Sometimes it seems like that would be a lot easier. I may have to learn that technique at some point. One of the things that was a surprise is how much shows up in a photo. It can bring out a lot of subtle marks. Another tool for us to use.
