Out of circulation, I just don't see any possible upside here.

I also don't know what that means. Whether it's a keeper or not, like any other $100 note, it's still worth $100, right?

It looks to be in excellent condition. I have $100 worth of average nickels that I haven't cashed in yet but, they aren't burning a hole in my pocket, per se.

Oh, and by the way, Congrats on the radar!

It was pulled straight out of the new stack at the bank, so it is in really good condition. I made sure when I pulled it out that it was super safe and went straight to my book.

It's $100, a lot of money to tie up that could be spent on other numismatic interests that are not as speculative as notes with cool serial numbers when it comes to value. You might be able to sell it on ebay for a premium but you'd return much of your profits in fees.

It's still very cool and if it makes you happy, great! Collect how and what you like.

That makes a lot of sense, but I am by no means pinching pennies to collect stuff. Truthfully, yes, I could sell this and buy other coins, but I have been looking for one of these in the wild for a while. :)

I like it a lot and won't be getting rid of it.

So what's the obvious downside, Coinfrog?

I'm still trying to figure out the comment.

I think he meant "Out of circulation, I just don't see any possible downside here" because he points out that its out of circulation, which makes it a luckier pick. :P

spreuett - the downside is the opportunity cost of a hundred bucks sitting idle indefinitely when it might be spent on something with more upside potential.

Put differently, this note will unlikely be worth more than $100 ten years from now. But if you invest it now in something truly scarce (which this is not), you'll likely show a nice gain over the same span.

totally with that statement.

I also have more than a few things in my collection fall into that category (wrinkly star notes, jars of circulated Kennedys, etc.). To each their own!

I agree with Frog on this one. If I had the option to hold this bill or buy something really scarce or a nice piece with it, 10 out of 10 times I'd spend it.

Frog (and anyone), what would you buy with this? I see what you mean. I may just sell it and then use the money to get something sweet. Lets say I sell it and it sells for $140-150; what would you all buy?
