You're very astute at buying raw coins. I see traces of harsh cleaning on the obverse and on the reverse at 4 o clock.

I would say ms details.

I would label it MS60-61 DMPL. Maybe it would be worth sending it to NGC/PCGS +/- CAC.

It is a "first strike" from newly polished dies. It could have been a presentation piece. I owned a similar piece about 15 years ago.

Congrats! It's a beautiful coin. Have you tested the depth of the fields yet?

I just sold my 76-S today at a 33% premium of what I paid for it. Seems like there are buyers for this series.

It was graded by NGC, and I agreed with them. But I still cracked her out.

You are right. This coin has been cleaned, but very lightly. An abrasive cleaning? Yes. A harsh cleaning? No.

Either way that is a gorgeous coin with HUGE eye appeal. I absolutely love Trade dollars and I think you would have an easy time selling it. I wonder if it would be forth sending it to PCGS for another opinion? They might let it pass without any notations.

Thank you! If it gets a pass at PCGS, then I would respect them even less than I already do. This coin has been noticeably cleaned.

That's why I only shop at NGC! They don't let much of anything pass and I trust their judgement!

I just showed this to Bill Fivaz. He said it was conclusively not a proof.
