Conservation service by NCS might improve the appearance and might be worth a try. As noted, it will probably still be a problem coin.

I'd try some acetone or "Coin Care" on this piece ... no down-side.

NCS is a good route to take, but be ready for the cost.

Wow, Not what I thought. I am not happy with this at all. I kind of liked the coin before NCS got a hold of it. I understand the AU Details grade but what is up with the "scratches"? What are you thoughts and opinions since it has been sent in?

Oh no, Your coin in its original state was sulfur damaged. Heat could ave been involved but "fire" damage looks totally different. The morons at NCS (a service I have always highly recommended) have ruined your coin. It was worth more before they got a hold of it and took your money. Judging from your coin and what I have started to hear about NCS, they have some "rookies" cleaning coins now. I have heard that the Director of NCS now spends a lot of time grading foreign coins rather than doing the mundane day-to-day conservation. Such a shame. This is definitely not good advertising!

The fact that they took your money and sent it back like this without comment is most discouraging.

I have reached out to the management and they have offered to refund me all of my money and have offered to try and correct/or make better. What have I got to lose by sending it back, it is pretty much worthless in the state it is in. I am really amazed that they sent the coin to me without discussing it before hand or even talking to me before they tried to do anything to it. They must have known that it would not turn out better than when I sent it to them? I guess it was a gamble I lost!

I agree with the after affects but at least they gave you a refund. I just sent 5 coins to ANACS and paid the $29 for conservation cleaning. Wonder what they will come back like? LOL
