Cool.

Now you can try the varieties. ;)

These can be found in circulation and in many cases this is the only place they can be found.

There is a comprehensive list down the hall; "clad quarter varieties".

1965 type "b" reverse (if memory serves)
1965 Silver reverse (scarce)

1965 Struck on slver planchet (scarce)
1966 DDR
1966 Rotated Reverse
1966 SMS Gouges in 6's (these exist in various degrees but the dramatic ones are pretty tough)
1967 DDO (3 known)(one is very dramatic and quite scarce)
1967 DDR (minor)
1968-D DDO (dramatic and scarce)
1970-D DDO (2)(one dramatic and very scarce)
1970-D struck on dime stock (very common but terrible attrition)(~quarter million struck)
1971 DDR (reported to be very rare)
1971-D DDR
1971-D struck on dime stock (much scarcer than the '70-D)
1972-D struck on dime stock
1972-D DDR (2 known)
1973 (reverse of 1972)(dramatic and scarce)
1974 (reverse of 1972)(rare, probably)
1974 (reverse of 1973)(Very rare since coins under VF are unidentifiable)
1974-D (reverse of 1972)
1976-D DDO Rare Dramatic
1977 type "d" reverse (scarce, rare in better than VF+)
1977-D type "d" reverse (scarce)(exists in unc)
1978 type "d" reverse (tough, scarce in unc)
1978-D type "d" reverse (scarce, rare in unc)

1980-D type "d" reverse (exists in gem)
1981-P type "d" reverse (appears in 1981 mint sets ~.6%)(exists in gem PL)
1981-P DDO (minor)
1981-D type "d" reverse (found in rolls)
1982-D type "d" reverse (appears in Paul and Judy mint sets et al) (appears PL)
1983-P type "d" reverse (common)(~15%)
1983-D type "d" reverse (very common) (~20%)

Is there any link to, or, pictures of these (or at least some) varieties?

I do collect the clad ones, but only the nicer, AUish quarters and I've started a hoard of the 82-83 issues.

Congrads!

I don't know about anyone else, but I personally like the 65-98 clads better then the current ones that the mint is releasing.

Most of the better doubled dies are in the Cherry picker's guide. Most of the others will present a problem. If you search the thread at CU you can find some links that will help with descriptions. I'm not sure why the link didn't work but here it is again;

The software is destroying this link apparently.

I'm mostly computer illiterate or I'd post some pictures but most of these aren't too difficult to get a good feel for by descriptions or by seeing similar coins of other dates. There's a good picture of the type "d" '79 on the first link in the linked thread.

Qtr series seems to be very popular among collectors. I've never really been interested in it. Maybe some day.

I can't say I really collect them but I do have the complete set in BU/Proof including all silver issues.

I bought them when I found out about the State Quarter program. Figured the price would go up and it certainly did.
I don't think they're as "ignored" as they once were.

I also bought singles at times, usually out of mint sets when the price was right.

I'm somewhat of an opportunist and I still believe the clads will get much more attention.

I have several different types of Whitman Albums for Washington quarters. About 5 from 32 to 98. About 5 more that I made from Whitman Album covers and blank pages for all the stupid State Quarters which includes all three mints. I also started one from 32 to present with Phily only coins and thinking about another for Denver only too. I am a nut with all the blank pages where you can make your own albums the way you like them. I refuse to just do as Whitman, Dansco, Littleton, etc want me to. If they didn't make blank pages, I would just use a dark blue Sharpie Permanent marker to get rid of their information.
