Everything is hard and expensive to ship to Alaska. Too many times I see "ships to Continental United States only". My biggest fear with coins is that they will be lost in shipping. I don't live on the road system, so everything in the village arrives by plane. But even with gas at $8/gallon and milk even more than that, it's still worth it. Make the move if you can!

to the Family Jake! I, too, would love to visit Alaska. I'll get there one of these days!

I lived in Fairbanks in the pre-pipeline days. But that was "big city" even then (pop = 15,000) compared to where you live now. I remember Matanuska Maid being the dairy but it appears that it closed a few years back (2012?).
And of course silver dollars circulated quite freely, probably more than paper dollars.
