I always liked nickels. As a kid it was the highest denomination I felt I could afford to collect.

As for proofs, not that it's really necessary but my pre-1960 proof Jeffs are all slabbed. I have, what I think is a complete set with all business, proof, satin and matte issues. But then again, even a "complete" set is never really finished as there are always upgrades to be had.

Once I get a really nice album (thinkin' CAPs with custom pages) I'll probably feel compelled to take pictures and post them.

By "complete" you mean starting with 1838?

Haha! I wish.

I was talking about Jeffs, those I got. What nickels go back to 1838? I always thought the first nickels only go back to 1866.

Doh, typo here. I meant 1938, of course, and I gather you have the proofs from that date on - congrats, and how about some pics?

Just let a 1938 proof get by me for $32.00 on ebay. Now that's discipline! 391830716377

OK, got ya.

Yeah, I have what I think is a pretty nice set of Jeffs going back to '38. The earliest proofs are still in their slabs but I plan to set them free as soon as I figure out a permanent storage solution. Same goes for the '94 and '97 mattes.

I'm also working on an MS-66 set of war time nickels. I like NGC so I'm going to be really picky.

I'll try to get around to posting a couple if pix.

Coinfrog, not the best images but you get the idea.

My plan is to buy a CAPs album(s) with custom pages for my entire Jeff collection. A lot of these little guys are going to be set free and join the buddies in the album.

I think they look just fine in their slabs, and worry that re-submitting them to the elements by putting them in an album will be a mistake in the long run.

I wouldn't crack them due to the risk of damage and potentially lowering their value. I'm pretty sure they make 3 ring binder pages that will hold slabs. Maybe that could be an option..

I see no problem cracking these if they are going into a CAPS album.

I would not crack them for a Dansco. I prefer lower grade raw coins for that.

That's the plan. I want all my Jeffs in an album and with CAPS customizable pages I can get exactly what I want.
