Interesting, however: "fact" 25 is not completely correct as MANY U.S. coins still in circulation do not have the "P" mintmark; "fact" 26 refers to the penny which is not a U.S. denomination since we use the cent instead.

"Fact" 23 is wrong. The US did NOT make 16 Trillion coins in 2016, more like 16 Billion.

Quote: Penny is the US denomination. Go look at the specifications of proof or uc sets on the official mint site. They call it a penny.. Just because they call it so doesn't make it so and if that were to be the official terminology then Congress should legislate the change and the Mint can strike new dies with the CENT removed and PENNY added.

So do we have to stop calling 5-cent pieces "nickels", too?

That's still OK, but don't call them "5-penny pieces".

I don't know why some people object to "penny" for the US coin. It is perfectly acceptable. Yes the officially correct term is "Cent" but there is nothing wrong with calling it a penny. It has been called a penny for hundreds of years and will continue to be so.

Copied pasted from Wikipedia : Steven Mnuchin, the current U.S. Treasury Secretary, said that he will not commit to putting Tubman on the twenty-dollar bill, explaining "People have been on the bills for a long period of time. This is something we'll consider; right now we have a lot more important issues to focus on."
