Just an FYI....that is a Morgan dollar, not a Peace dollar. First release of a Peace dollar was 1921 I believe.

and nothing wrong with being new!

If you do not see an error on a coin and just need help with condition post in the "grading" section.

There is a WEALTH of knowledge on the left margin of the page under "US Coin facts".

That will help you with initial identification...Morgan dollar / Peace dollar / Trade dollar etc.

Look at the denomination and year of coin - mint mark etc. and you can see which
dollar, half dollar, quarter etc. you are looking at. Then look at the available
topics and see which one best suits your question.

I have to agree with Justinokay. Perhaps it's the odd peripheral tone, but the circulation pattern isn't hitting the high points as I would expect.

It's a 1901 S Morgan dollar, not a Peace dollar.

The stars look off as does the eagle head and feathers. I'm worried this particular coin may not be authentic. How did you acquire this coin?

I can not find the forum you moved me to, or does it just do it automatically and I don't know where it was acquired I just got the opportunity to go through a familys collection. I am tge only one extremely intrigued in them they all think I am crazy for wanting to look through even there pocket change. I am still new to it all but I am only 20 and have a lot to learn but a lot of time left to do so.

Unfortunately, the gouges on the obverse negates most of the value this Morgan would see beyond the silver content if it is in fact silver. It would be a good idea to check the weight and compare the thickness to other silver dollars.

and to CCF!
