Interesting piece, at first glance it does look Kushan but a closer look at the figure doesn't match. The piece does appear to have age. I have no idea what the HHC means and I spent the last 45 minutes going through a list of ancient scripts with no luck. It would be interesting to find out if the script is a language at all. Maybe someone here as seen it before and can help. Otherwise I would check with the local collages in your are to see if they have some one that has knowledge in obscure scripts.

Possibly an Ebusus issue with Bes facing. I'll poke around a bit.

yes! Thank you so much!! That is definitely the right direction.

Thank you too to all the others who tried to find this!

It came to me as an unknown from a dealer in the UK. Searching for "HHC" mostly led me into listings for another dealer who I think marks their general auctions that way.

Actually I recognized this one immediately, Ron. Why? Because I am student at CCF Institute. I remembered the type from a post a couple years back.

I have been doing some googling based on this awesome ID and I came across some interesting (I think) info.

This coin seems to be a monster for the series. I couldn't find anything close to it in weight.

I also found that these type of coins were often imitated and both legit and imitation pieces were the most common types of coins found at Pompeii.

I wonder if this coin is perhaps a contemporary imitation of Rome production...?

Fantasy coin...
A "denarius" from Ebusus; Romans never struck denarius in Ibiza as they struck in the Iberian Peninsule...
The Iberian denarius were struck in the republican age when the Island of Ebusus was an ally of Carthage (and coining under the carthaginian monetary system), after the defeat of carthago the island was personal property of the emperor and only struck copper with the traditional carthaginian monetary system...

I'm sorry to say that I must agree with Athalbert.

Two clones can be found here:

Thank you! That does look just like it at the "falsas" site. That's a great site and I will look through it more and bookmark it.

I don't recall what I paid for this piece but I'm certain it wasn't much. It's a neat piece regardless and I enjoyed learning more about the series.

Yeah, I posted a Castulo here a couple years ago that I thought was authentic. I was very surprised to find my photo of the coin on the falsas site.

It was a fake too.

You could submit yours to them, maybe they'll add it.
