Yes I buy one to keep and one to break apart.

And....I spend the proof coins I do not need.

I've broken up sets to fill holes but, only if I have another set to keep together. I've broken sets for only one coin and leave the rest in the OGP and put them in a separate box for broken sets.

I am mostly known for breaking proof sets to fill my albums and I typically want to get business strikes from circulation, but I have ripped apart a few mint sets in my days.

I've broken apart every mint and proof set since 1964 to put in my albums. I'm not going to stop now.

I broke open two mint sets in the past but cannot bring myself to do it again even though the coins within them would be nice upgrades to my circulation sets. I'm always torn on what to do but there's just something about seeing an entire year's worth of coinage in the mint cellophane.

Yes, I take them out of mint and proof sets...primarily because the way I prefer to view my collection is in albums. I am of the persuasion that this is not an investment but a hobby. Everybody's different. There's no wrong way to collect coins - as long as they belong to you.

I don;t have albums, but if I did, I would break up modern sets only. I don't think i'd have the heart to bust open a 30+ YO set.
