I feel in a good mood right now ,so I'll say that was a great find. you can see the date clear as a bell. value to you is priceless because you found it buried in the ground with a coin finding machine . Congrats .

It actually looks a lot better than I expected it to look, given where it was found.

I think most of the value is in the story behind its discovery.

That is exactly the good part.......the way it was found. I am trying to teach him stuff that he will want to carry on and do such activities with his kids.....he has a healthy interest in the coin collecting and the antique cars, both of which are my hobbies.

I'd clean it up a little bit.. Never know what it might look like after. I have this 1919 I shined up a little bit to see what would come of it. It was in bad shape.. Still is.. but its clean and the gunks off it.. Now hopefully it will get a nice patina on it in the next decade or two.

One of the most valuable stamps in my stamp collection (to me) is the stamp I got when traveling with my father. My favorite nickels are the 35% silver nickels my father collected from spare change during WWII while he was in the Merchant Marines. I would NEVER consider "upgrading" them! I can only hope this penny has a similar meaning for your son. Well done!
