@Electrum Yes...there will be a penny too!!
Look up at SergeyYS photo of the box holding the voyageur coin and you will see 7 pics of the new art. I hope I am right on this one. Just a guess but I do know for sure that this is a 7 coin series.

The Great Seal of Canada coin was first produced in 2003 with a mintage of 998. So I'm not going to buy it this time. Not a fan of repeated stuff.

Thank you guys for pictures and analysis. I would agree, that the Voyageur and the Penny probably will gain in the value (till CAD 700-900). All the rest - I even not sure what they have been minted for? All who wanted to buy some Big Coin design - already got it with 'gold' layering in 2015. Btw, the 2012 Big Penny doesn't have 'traditional' Proof Finish. And according the picture, the 2018 series are frosted on mirror surface coins.

I find the 2 oz. gold-plated Voyageur coin a beautiful piece. But I'm not getting the same "feeling" when I see the 5 oz. rose-gold version. It does not look right to me. I think it will be the same for the entire rose-gold series, with the exception of the penny. The rose-gold on the penny looks copper-ish, so seems more fitting.
Maybe my opinion will change once actual photos are available, instead of the renderings that are currently being shown.

5 kilograms of silver is worth $3,522 CAD. And RCM is selling the Canada 150 5kg coin for $10,699.95. The profit margin would be 67%. By contrast, RCM typically sells a 1oz gold coin for $2,800. And 1oz of gold is worth $1,646 CAD. The profit margin for gold coins is there for 41%. Any insights why RCM needs to have such a high profit margin for all silver coins? Because producing a silver coin is technically more difficult than a gold one?

Because they can, and some people will purchase them

@yesOrNo I'm not defending the mint here but it's not profit margin. Essentially their raw material cost is what you've stated.
They then have labour costs, costs for tooling, costs for packaging, costs for overhead, cost for marketing, etc. The business I work for runs on a 38% raw material to final sale price cost.
If you look at cost of raw materials to sale cost in numismatics, you'll always be deeply regretful of your purchase.

@SoulBrotherNo3 I understand it's not the final profit margin. My question is, for the costs of labour, tooling, packaging, overhead, marketing, and profit, it's 67% for silver coins, and 41% for gold coins. Why so? Does RCM spend 26% more on labour, tooling, packaging, overhead, marketing for silver coins than gold coins?

I think it's the fact that higher prices over raw material costs can be sustained on silver coins. Price point to the consumer is much more palatable. If they were to charge higher premiums on gold coins over raw material prices they would be astronomical and have little interest is my suspicion.

I agree. Personally I would pick one 1-oz gold coin over 20 1-oz silver coins; the costs would be the same. But sliver coins are much more likely to lose value with time.
My favourite gold coin is the 1 oz Maple Leaf gold coin for Canada 150 (proof and reverse proof). Sadly, I can't find any at (or close to) the release price. Any chance of another Canada 150 gold coin (1 or 2 oz) by the end of this year?

Canada Post online has the single 2018 five ounce Voyageur coin up on their website.
Also, 15 to 25% discount on a lot of NCLT coins from star trek, star wars and many many more.

Anyone saw the 5 oz Canadian Icons silver coin? It has the Canada 150 logo on the reverse side. I saw surprised to see this coin on the shopping channel website. Then, a couple of hours later, for unknown reason, it's gone. You can still see the image on ebay by searching "Canadian Icons." The design is mediocre. That's my first impression. I might change my opinion later though. The design wasn't complicated; it could fit into a 2 oz coin well. I think the mintage is 1500.
