It is probably plated and maybe as a science expirement as has been said. I can't find the post but, here's one I have that looks very similar: I don't have the edge comparison pic but, the color difference is the same there as well.

The old commercial with the little southern girl in the kitchen cooking with Mommy, " It's Shake 'N Ba-ake, an' ah ha-el-pa-tt!". When you heat a zinc core coin, the chemical processes caused more of the zinc molecules to permeate( migrate) to the thin copper plating. This ally then changes the properties of copper/zinc/tin which is bronze into brass, the gold color. Most likely this was Little Johnnie in High School Science class showing off to the girls. He's apparently graduated from the Garage, sad...his best work was there!

Dustin1475 Posted - Yesterday : 9:01 pm Thank you guys for the the info and the other penny is missing the l in liberty
That is normal on cents from the 1960s. I think it is caused by a late die stage. (not sure)

I have a 2008 penny that looks gold also. So science experiment goes out the door. I was just looking for info myself and seem to only find noncollector comments. Good luck

Buff, you have resurrected an old post. The OP seems to have abandoned this thread. His 2008 cent looks to me like a Brass Plated cent, a very nice error coin. You should start your own thread and post a picture of yours.
