Frankly, asking him to come down one more dollar before seeing the coins in person wasn't the best move, and you might not hear from him again.

You are paying full retail for these if they are all AU.
Not getting them isn't a terrible alternative.
I know if someone had offered me $55 for something and I agreed, I would have no more time for someone who broke our agreed price by asking for another buck off.

Any Morgan in any condotion for $18 is a good deal. Asking to come down owne more dollar is a ludicrous move though.

If I were the seller one more dollar discount wouldn't hurt me, I'd do the deal.

 I would have gotten annoyed too... if you already agreed on a price you should stick by it. It is just a dollar but I think it's more the principle. I hope for your sake that guy doesn't feel the same way. |

I ended up not going for the deal mainly because I don't really like 1921 Morgan dollars, but the seller and I have exchanged phone numbers. |

So you then backed out of the deal after asking for one more dollar off and he accepted? Better check to see if that phone number is a valid one.

Sounds like he backed off twice.  Silver4Face, suggest you rethink your strategy before pulling that stunt at a coin store or show. Edited by Coinfrog

If you were the one selling you would run short on time very quickly for people who keep trying to get more and more and more off the price no matter what the agreement was. Not sure how long you have been collecting, but everyone is pointing this out to you because you will quickly find that most sellers in this hobby will not deal with buyers who think that is okay. As Coinfrog mentioned if you did that at a store you'd likely be asked to leave, if you did that at a coin show word would spread and you'd quickly find yourself being ignored by sellers. |

I explained that at the moment I cannot pick up the dollars so he should try to sell them to somebody else and he understands. Quote:

I only run short on time for dealers/sellers who are condescending toward me. I've run into several of those in my day and it's NOT because of my attitude or how I haggle with them. If someone doesn't/can't sell to me, then I go to another person. I don't haggle at coin stores like that. I rarely go to them now anyways, mostly because I don't buy coins that much anymore, and I've had plenty of bad experiences with coin dealers who seemingly have no respect for the history of coins. |
