NGC graded her as MS61. I see a slight cheek rub in addition to the eagles neck, below the shield and the wing leading edge for wear and hopefully will garner an AU58, maybe even a plus (+) from PCGS when I cross it. If it comes back MS...I'll sell it.

I would tolerate the gouge across the shield to own that color.

The gouge is the reason I agree with your opinion that AU58 is the "real" ceiling for this coin.

I'm really surprised that NGC gave this coin only a 61 .
So they are saying that this Barber is uncirculated with no wear or friction . But this gorgeously toned Half Dollar would have to have been loaded with dings ,hairline scratches ,and small rim bumps to receive MS-61 , which it
does not exibit . So either the coin is AU-58 or MS-63/64 .

I honestly think they saw wear and rewarded it for eye appeal. One of the reasons "market grading" infuriates me, but NGC is hardly the only culprit.

I will eventually, after I get the TDO attribution noted on the insert...and trying to find a buyer for it may be an adventure in waiting itself!

Nice piece. I was thinking originally 64-65 but was a bit off. I really like the color.

Mint State coins are not allowed in the Everyman Set, AU58+ is the maximum allowable grade.
