I was anticipating something unique in coin format. This looks like something found in a case of beer - Yes lack of detail hurts the design... Gift shop overkill with this design and the stone carving "coin" not my thing.

Strange they gave us "half" of the Stanley Cup. Why not a complete Stanley Cup liker the sculpture coins? We don't see "half" of a polar bear on the sculpture coin.

I see it as just another fairly expensive novelty coin from the RCM. IMO, it has a limited collector base and will almost definitely be available for less than issue price in the future.

I agree. After giving a great deal of thought, I came to the conclusion that the Stanley cup coin is not attractive at all.It should of been the whole cup perhaps inscribed with some of the top NHL teams that won the most cups. Also on a nicer stand. For this I cancelled my order.

I'm also extremely disappointed by RCM flooding the market with GIMMICK coins, they should have done 1/2 production on 10 Oz Superman coin and did 5 or 10 oz full Stanley cups coin. Which I would have bought in a heartbeat but this 1/2 coin is 1/2 a joke right? Worst part is they will assume its the theme of the coin thats the issue of its failure to sell and probably wont see another instead of it being 100% business decision failure. As a Canadian I'm insulted by our money hungry mint, I guess in their world its quantity over quality :(

Have you noticed that the RCM is shaving a few grams off of their new silver releases so that the are weighted just a little bit less than 1oz, 2oz, 5oz etc

The 100th anniversary of Grey Cup coin released in 2012 was simple affordable beautiful design - Is it possible there is more to come re Stanley in traditional round coin design?

They also released a 1 oz multi coin that actually 1.5 oz :P its a 4 coin puzzle maple leaf that are 11.98g per coin. I snagged it because of this odd design, I think it will be worth something in 20 year just on the stupidity of RCM. :p

Quote: Half the cup just doesn't do it for me Quote: It should of been the whole cup Steve Bromberg provided the brilliant solution on the Coin Show to this very obvious problem. Just buy two and put them together to make a whole cup. /facepalm

Steve Bromberg provided the brilliant solution on the Coin Show to this very obvious problem. Just buy two and put them together to make a whole cup. Only problem with that besides paying $720.00(ouch) is that Your coin wouldn't be encapsulated and wouldn't fit on the stand that comes with it. prone to scratches and discoloration. Just another marketing gimmick for you to buy more than one.Nice try Steve.

I though of this but its not 1/2 a cup, its more like 2/3s of a cup, so it wouldn't look good with 2 of them next to each other.
The stand wouldn't fit 2 of them also, so you would have to custom stand built,

A cool idea for me, but seems like they gave up on it half way through and just said good enough. If they want to ask that kind of premium than the fine details better be there otherwise drop the price significantly
Would it be poor form to have the Queen underneath it on the bottom? If not they should have done the full cup and put the reverse underneath

They are already doing that with those sculpture and soapstone versions, poor her majesty.
