Some decent looking designs. I for one actually prefer the ATB series to the State Quarters; feels like the Mint is finally using 21st century engraving technology without having to resort to gimmicks. Most (although not all) are aesthetically pleasing, too. I always like finding a new design in my change, on the rare occasion that I use cash these days.

Quote: When I hear the phrase "War In The Pacific"' I tend to think of the overall Pacific campaign rather than the park specifically. But once I realized that the design is about the whole park, I found myself warming to the designs a bit more - I think the turtle and the sunken plane strike the best balance between nature and history, after thought. I agree, my feelings changed once I stepped back and realized what the coin was actually for; a park, not a war.

The park itself was created to commemorate the battles and the sacrifice that occurred during the war in that theater. It was also a battle ground that still has reminders of that all over the place. While technically it may be a park, it would not be doing the meaning or the park itself justice to depict it with some wildlife. https://www.nps.gov/wapa/index.htm

The park commemorates the battles, the coin commemorates the park. I do not see anything wrong with that. I doubt any surviving soldier or family would want to go to there to see another battle. A war memorial does not always show the images of war, so why must a coin?

It doesn't have to have a battle scene though in this instance those are some of the best designs, all I am saying is that simply having a fish or a turtle or the wild life doesn't capture the meaning of the park. From the designs they have to choose from the gun emplacement with the flags is probably the most fitting

I looked closely at the one you suggested and then looked at some Google images from the park. I have to agree with you, it is a very appropriate design. With everything considered is probably my favourite one out of the bunch.

I always find it amazing how many famous battles took place in our national parks!

Personally I feel the ATB is a big blunder. They are boring and I have no interest in them or their ultra low relief. In the future these will be unrecognizable because they will wear. I wish they'd bring back Washingtons spaghetti hair and raise the relive some.
