Another 1804 Draped Bust Quarter On Ebay...

That is assuming the "bidding war" wasn't between the buyer himself to generate hype in the next go around. I don't believe any sane person willing to spend that kind of money wouldn't have enough brain to look up comp values on heritage and in the process find this coin's history.

It seems that there's a trend of people picking up odd lots on Heritage/ Stacks and then passing them on at much higher prices.

Last month I went to my 1st USA coin show in at least 5 years. There was only 1 interesting gold coin out of about 5 at the whole show of about 150 dealers. It was some date of 1890 2.5$ Liberty in a 61 holder but it looked quite pretty w/ semi-PL surfaces and a few small marks. The seller wanted $900. and pushed the rare date.

I looked it up and saw that it recently sold at Heritage for $400.

Thus I think there's a lot of bargain hunting at these large auctions with odd lots/problematic coins. As mentioned elsewhere I've only bought 3 coins on ebay, all of which I've returned. On the 1890 2.5, yes it may be low mintage but how many want one in 61? Anybody who can afford a 2.5 Lib date set can pick up those pieces in 64 with little effort. Now a rare date $20 or an early $10 or even a classic head gold in 61 has some selling points.

Well it sold again. This time for $3,402.33.

What a roller coaster for whoever owned this coin. They must have been ecstatic when it sold 3 weeks ago for $11K, only to be disappointed when it was returned (or not paid for), and now perhaps devastated by selling it for considerably less than the $4,817.50 they paid for it at the Heritage auction in early August.

I sort of feel sorry for them to have been on this up and down ride.

Don't worry mike it'll probably be relisted. I seriously doubt they're going to eat almost a 2k loss

I bid 3,353.33 with like 2 seconds left and it doesn't show up in the bid history. The next full increment bid was for 3,352.33 but I added an extra dollar.

The item ended 24 Nov 2017 at 6:10:51PM PST and the highest bid of 3,402.33 was entered at 24 Nov 2017 at 6:09:41PM PST, 10 seconds to end of auction. The reason your bid isn't showing up is it probably errored out and didn't let you enter your bid as the existing bid was already higher (you probably didn't notice the bid or due to delay it never made it to you, this happens often when bidding on mobile devices).

As for the auction itself, I am certain the previous bidding was BS. Seller shilled all the way up to 11K to generate a buzz and then naturally cancelled the sell for some BS reason. No sane person would EVER pay 11k for this coin. I agree with you basebal21, I'd be surprised if this seller will honor the sale. He'll most likely welch out and get his account suspended/banned and then start another one - rinse & repeat. This is probably why his account has 6 reviews to begin with...
