James M. Taylor was a money exchange broker with offices in NY City and Brooklyn, during the 1850's. He later went into real estate dealings. Here's one of his counterstamped half dollars ...




Counterstamped coins, although not pretty, often tell where they've been, who once held them and what purpose they served.

Thanks, Mike. I love the stories they tell of "down home" American history. I've been at it for thirty-plus years now, and new discoveries keep coming my way. I do still admire the pretty, unstamped coins though!
