Between this weekend and next to the 17th there is an avalanche of great coins hitting the block.
Usually in a month I might find 3-6 coins I like. Right now my watch lists are bursting at the seems with absolutely must haves.
Bank account is being prepped for a tough month. But the last 6 coins I've bid on I got smashed like a bug.

I'm right there with you, everything I had on watch went for moon money in my opinion. There was one Seated dollar that I had on my watch list that didn't go for stupid money, just more than my budget permitted.

I was watching Legends Regency auction. They had a nice run of Seated dollars in the AU 55-58 range. All were CAC and brought solid to very solid prices IMO.

Hah! Just sold a nice batch of tokens for some serious money and I can now bid like a nut case for those juicy tidbits in my sights. The rest of you shouldn't bid on anything until the 18th

MikeF: You have got the right attitude on how to bid on coins that you may be interested in. I suspect that you may be developing a similar bidding philosophy to mine:- Pick out the cherries that you may be interested in, and submit a single low priced bid. That way, it is far more common to miss out, but that is OK. If you win, then a happy bonus. My hit rate would be below 30%. I am never upset if I loose, but to the contrary: I still have my money to bid on something else at a good price. At least, you know that you are buying good coins at a good price. Just leave the bidding wars to others.

Quote: "So many great auctions this weekend and I got my butt kicked on every single lot I bid on" *** Edited by Staff to add Quote tags. Please use them in the future. ***I am on the same spectrum but just the other end of it... I put in a bunch of low balls on some double Thalers and older German State coinage and won quite a few more than expected. I'm ecstatic to have won at the price levels I did but still... it's the paying part that sucks. It's OK, it will all be worth it when the beauties arrive

Sometimes being shut out at an auction is a good thing. I went 0 for 6 in the last Heritage Auction, but at least it allowed me to pay off my lay-away coin earlier than expected. So now I'm off searching for my next big coin purchase. Kids have enough, they don't need anything for Christmas!

And the slump continues. A bidding war broke out over this gal this morning.

Didn't you just win a beautiful half? You can win all of the time (and you wouldn't want to, you'd be broke in a hurry). Besides, isn't part of the thrill the chase itself? What did the above sample sell for?

Yes and I love the chase. I originally posted this during the Dallas show. Then this coin the final day of the stacksbowers auction. Every single coin I bid on turned in a bidding war including the one above. I think it sold for $550-600. I was out at $400 something. Oddly the 32 bust half only took one cut bid to win. I've seen other 32's with beautiful toning sell for $1,500 - $1600.
