I'm confused by BadDog.

What is the difference between a note sheet and a regular sheet ?

It's a * note sheet.

Star note sheet. Guess I should have spelled out star rather than use an asterisk to denote star.

Secretary Mnuchin has been pretty much pilloried since his nomination and his wife has not helped his reputation out much with her antics. I have no idea whether he is qualified or not, I try to stay out of the political nonsense that is so prevalent these days but some of the stuff they have done has not sit well with many.

Had it been almost any other person than him and his wife this would have not have been such a big deal. I am pretty sure anyone whose signature appears on the dollar bill would have had a similar photo taken, I know I would have. I also would have requested a bunch of sheets as well, it would look awesome framed on my wall.

It appears to be skip numbered correctly in that 00002888 corresponds to plate position I3 and 00002988 is the serial number of the note below this one.

The note numbers are what I didn't understand [I confess, I'm mostly a coin guy ). I thought that the numbers would be consecutive, so that 00002893 would be below 00002888 on a sheet that's 5 wide. Or if they went vertically, then it would be 00002888 over 00002898. So, it's matrix numbering? Is the 100 shift normal on all sheets or is this something you only see on * (star note) sheets?

I've received banded, uncirculated note from the bank that had consecutive serial numbers. How do they pull that off?

I definitely need some schooling here..!

So do I! and I've found one of the best places to learn is http://www.uspapermoney.info. It's a great site with loads of information.

As far as serial numbers are concerned, the serial numbers are printed on the sheets so that when the sheets are stacked, cut and banded the notes are in serial number order. So, they have to be skip numbered on an individual sheet.

It's normal for both regular and star sheets. It's because a band of notes is 100 notes.

Thanks, Dog. I'll add that to my sub-folder. I think if I was an engineer I could visualize how the sheets are shuffled to give the desired result. I have seen it done on TV but the pace was so fast I couldn't really see the whole process.

So, I'm off to do something useful and will get to that website tonight.

Also, Mnuchin is holding a star sheet because the BEP typically prints a batch or two of star notes before regular (non star) notes are printed.

Need to add this to my list of items for my family back in the states to keep on the lookout for so they can send me one of these new dollar bills.

Coinfrog,

I think he's just saying that when he used to get bundles of 1000 new $1 bills that he would always find a few star notes, from 2 to 5, in the bundle.

I really didn't see a question. I guess he's wondering if anyone else had similar experiences.

I think he's saying that in the past he never received a bundle of bills that didn't have at least a few error notes replaced by star notes. I guess it relates to your question about whether or not a BEP director should have enough confidence in the BEP process to print star sheets before printing the regular sheets.
