Well for what it is worth I would say the edge looks genuine. Looking over the coin with the edge considered I would not send it back and I'd personally feel the coin is fine. But that is just my opinion of course. Certainly not screaming a major problem to me. Might just be a coin that was, as another said, made of soft metal and weathered this way. I put up two closeups from your photo. The coin does not look obviously bad to me and again just my opinion.

Louis thanks for your opinion and taking the time for the pics. I agree, this might be a keeper.

I am now about 90% sure that it is genuine. I would now be happy to keep it.

Hi Guys I know this is an old topic but I just saw this and found that my Nero tetradrachm matches this very closely. So now I am a bit concerned that the one I have and the one from TravelCoin both could be fakes? Please provide your thoughts.

I was going to layer them on top of each other in Photoshop then realized a side by side comparison was enough. As shown below the reverses are significantly different. While either coin could still be counterfeit the two aren't coming from the same molds. And in my opinion they look legit.

Thanks jskirwin, What I meant was not that they are identical but they are similar in the sense that they both have same wear and softness . Also the metal looks similar . So you think both are genuine?

I've only been collecting ancients for 5 years so I am far from being an expert on them. But I believe wear pattern is a weak indicator of fraud since legit coins struck from the same or similar dies will have similar wear patterns. Again, not an expert. Check out the Fake Coin Reports at Forum Ancient Coins - that's a better resource.

I've examined this coin forever and the types thereof, it's legit. AlRashid look yours looks to be ok also, I would have a look at the fake reports though - just in case.
P.S. I looked and didn't see a match.

Thanks Guys. I checked forum fakes for nero only few antioch tetradrachms were reported there and they didn't match mine. By the way I did XRF on this coin and it had 90.5% silver content is that correct amount for nero antioch coins?

Just a note on the interpretation of XRF rrsults:
The ancients could not refine silver or gold beyond about 97% pure.
Modern alloys like .925 silver have only 2 metals:- silver and copper. Ancient 'silver' coins may have a high silver content, but it is the trace elements that they could not refine out. THEY are what you should be looking for in your XRF analysis.

Thanks @Sel and @Spence I attached the result of XRF for this coin. I also attached the image of 2 coins from same seller which he claims coming from same collection. I notice they have similar wear and metal texture. But the patina on the other coins seems to be a hoard patina happened under ground. What is you guys thinking? I appreciate your thoughts.

Hey Guys
Does the XRF result is reasonable for this mint and period?
I appreciate someone shed some light on this.
