It looks plated, right? If so, I've seen these in stores & online, generally part of a pc. of jewelery, in this case cufflinks.

That wouldn't account for it being magnetic though.

It is mostly silver in color with a hint of bronze

If it is silver in color and magnetic then you can be pretty sure it was plated with nickel and if bronze colored also maybe replated with something else

@tony123, yep nickel-plating can be magnetic. Also, I neglected to welcome you previosuly--very glad that you are here on CCF and posting about your coin.

 ! Not much numismatic value on that plated 1940 cent - I'd put it up on the refrigerator as a conversation starter for guests...
