received the coin today. VERY happy with it! It has cartwheel luster and beautiful obverse toning with orange, brown and black hues! It doesn't show well in the picture, but it looks much better in real life. As for full head designation, the gap in the hairline that was observed in the picture does not seem to be there in real life. It looks like a full hairline to me under magnification. The only thing missing is the ear hole. I do believe the coin is a very high AU, as I think the slight flatness obxerved on libery's shin and a bit of rub on the breast is actual wear. Could be wrong though. Overall, this coin exceeds my expectations, which is a nice relief after several other ebay disappointments. This coin was well worth the money I paid IMO. :-)

Like I said before Johnny, I have an 1930 SLQ graded AU53FH by NGC. I have actually seen a PCGS XF40FH! For that head to survive all that circulation is amazing. If you go to https://www.pcgs.com and click on "price guide" then go to Standing Liberty quarters, scroll down to the 1918/7-S and there is a price of $14,000 for an XF40FH. There is one out there otherwise there would be no price for it. I have noticed that at PCGS.

thanks vermont! Wow, XF40FH? I knew they would designate that in AU, but I never thought an XF-40 would make FH. But they do have it as a price in PCGS. I personally wouldn't prefer a coin with that kind of uneven wear, but I imagine it is an extremely low POP coin, and probably just one like you said. Just thinking about it, that coin is worth more than my entire collection. wow!

One disturbing word of caution. Notice the lower tw right compartments, the center compartment, and the second compartment from the left in the top row. This is an image from the chinese counterfeiting factory. All four of those compartments are filled with Unc type II SLQ. (can't see dates) As far as I know, no one has identified any of the chinese fake SLQ yet

Thanks Conder101, that is a very sad commentary. Have you seen the fake chinese PCGS slabs? CoinWorld had the article a month or two ago. These unethical folks will try anything.

very scary prospect of what this could mean for our hobby if they get good enough to make them undetectable. I wish there was a way to verify the age of a coin, like carbon dating does for fossils.

These unethical folks will try anything Only pictures, I'd like to get my hands on one for close study but whenever I find one on ebay either the auction gets shut down or it gets bid up to the sky by collectors who believe it and the coin in it are real. I don't mind paying for a fake coin to get the slab, but I really can't afford to sink five or six hundred dollars or more into a counterfeit just to get the slab to study. I have the same problem with the fake ANACS and fake NGC slabs as well. I was involved with their identification since the beginning (ANACS in March 2007, NGC in Aug 2007) but I've never been able to actually get my hands on one.

PCGS says that they have ways of telling whether it is one of theirs or a fake. They cannot say what it is diagnostically because these criminals would incorporate them into their fake slabs. These crooks also know that once the fake coin is in the fake slab, you cannot weigh it on a gram scale to see if the weight is right on. I'd be willing to bet that these coins are of some inferior metal. I would not buy ANYTHING from China on ebay. I stick with U.S. or Canada only.

Very nice Vermont! Yours appears to have ever so slightly more wear than mine....And you have the magic ear hole to get your FH designation. :-) Your shield rivets are nicely struck as well.
