I went to ncgs and compared it to a ms63 that sold for $1030 and this is in better condition!

You could sell it as is or have a jeweler carefully extricate it and hope for no damage.

Considering how rarely anyone uses cufflinks, I'd try for the extraction. Even with a bit of damage it's worth gold value at least.

Plus, most people wear two cufflinks.

The link itself is also likely gold, 14Kt. There's no way it will ever be other than damaged, the bar is soldered to the back.

BStrauss3,I believe there is a reeded bezel that the fastener is attached to.

It is a reeded bezel with a tiny split at the junction. Only the bezel is welded not to the coin.

We are looking for the match before we cut it.

It looks uncirculated, but even if it comes out without damage it's not rare and would value only slightly above bullion. The coin itself would sell to a gold buyer for about $600 if you separate it. Sell the bezel separately. I've sold gold bezels before and they're not highly valued, typically only 10k scrap value, so worth much less than the coin itself.

I like eagles set in belt buckles much better. This coin is too clunky to use for a cufflink.

Hopefully any rim damage will be minimal. It would be a shame for a coin like that to be worth only bullion value.
