I was at a show in 1972 and somehow ended up with a 55DDO, 09SVDB, 22Plain and 72DDO that a dealer had passed around the crowd to take a look at while he gave a talk about them. I still remember that mans face when I handed the coins back to him, he thought they had all came back to his team before he thanked the crowd and sent them on their way. Still have the shiny 09VDB he gave me for returning his valuable coins.

I went back to a second listen to his presentation later that day to make sure I had all the facts straight, no coins were passed around during that presentation.

That is an interesting story and now that 1909-VDB has a nice honest memory attached to it.

Do not have even the true beginnings of a Lincoln Cent collection ... much less anything nearing completion.

That said ... am fortunate as a dedicated collector to have acquired two LMC that some would consider key dates ... my poor photos below if you care to see what an otherwise lowball collector has for LMC so far :

Carl! WOW!

@nickelsearcher. Impressive!

Thanks for the pictures!

My set that I sold did not include the 55DDO nor the 22 plain.
It was just a basic set in fine or better.

I still love my RAW 1972 & 1955 Doubled dies - coins are in a plastic air-tite! I can actually handle them without the physical contact ............I bought these 2 from my LCD many years ago when prices were nowhere near what they are today!

I have a complete set of circulation strikes. My Grandfather lived in the San Francisco Bay Area ( as did I) and assembled the set I own in the late 20s to 1941. He pulled the keys from Circulation. My Mom completed the second grouping from circulation easily in the 50s and early 60s. I started in the 60s and continue to this day.

As an aside I put togeather a second set from circulation in the mid 60s to mid 70s. The only thing it lacked was the 09-svdb and the 14d....and believe it or not the 1933-D. As a Dealer it is interesting to me how often people come into the shop looking for that very coin. Or when older collectors come in and say that the 33-D was their show stopper as well. I was able to find an 09-S and all the other S-mints.

I dare say that I have one of the few multignerational collections that was put togeather entirely from circulation.

As an aside, I worked for a large coin dealer as a "coin sorter". One of my projects was to sort through a half million hoard of cents collected from the 60s through 2000. Most LWC. A very few IHCs.

As a side project I filled a Whitman album ( 1909-40) and (40-58). Upgrading as I went. This hoard was assembled in the midwest and so S coins were on the light side. There were one 09-S ( Non vdb) and a single 14-D, all the other coins were present. Both the 09-S and the 14-D were PO. The only two coins not found were the 09-SVDB and 31-S.

Somewhere I have an inventory of all the dates I found, and the quantity by date and mintmark.
