Quote: Final price $515 I'm glad you posted this. I thought I was seeing things. Now I don't feel so bad about a stupid purchase I made a couple years ago.

Banks can't order specific coins or even specify new coinage. All they can do is order the denomination and they get whatever is on hand. Generally circulated coins first, then older unc coins, and then new current year coins. So it is just the luck of the draw. On the other hand you CAN order a Ballistic Bag from the mint. Weighs about a ton, you have to pick then up yourself, and provide your own truck and forklift. And there is a modest premium over face value. Deposit on the pallet (redeemable when you return it.)

Years ago the mint packaged coins for shipment in canvas bags that held the equivalent of 100 rolls of coins. A bags of cents weighed about 34 pounds. Nickels weighed 44 pounds, dimes, quarters, or halves 50 pounds, Then they changed their packaging to large bags holding roughly one ton of coins. they were called Ballistic Bags (why I don't know) A Ballistic Bag of quarters held the equivalent of 4000 rolls instead of 100. A Ballistic Bag is roughly a cube 3 1/2 feet on a side. Ballistic Bag hanging on a forklift
