More 1857-S double eagles for the market to absorb. The most common no motto $20.

Shipwreck provenance means nothing to me. When can I buy one for melt?

What a find!

Although I can't afford to buy a piece, it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to this find.

Buy a PCGS certified MS-64 1857-S Liberty Head double eagle with special SS Central America label. Crack it out, resubmit it and it comes back as MS Details Cleaned.

Dumb as in stupid but funny? Or dumb as in "I can't believe you said that. You should be ashamed."? It's an absurd comment not meant to be taken seriously. I highly doubt that PCGS, with decades of grading experience, would mistake an MS-64 coin for an MS details cleaned coin or vice versa. It's exaggerated grade deflation. Now if I said buy an old green label PCGS coin graded MS-62, crack it out, resubmit it and receive a grade of MS-67+, that would just be an exaggerated jab at the concept of gradeflation. I've heard people say that the grading services are loose with extreme rarities or coins with a pedigree, and strict with common coins or coins without pedigrees. I'm not saying they actually do that. I was just poking fun of the idea through ridiculous exaggeration.

No harm there can laugh at that, just hard to tell with thread comments because sometimes people make your joke in a serious manner. Tip of the hat throw an emoji next time for the joke

While these Gold coins may seem amazing, I am more curious on the detailed ones.

I think PCGS is just going to slab the ones that are detail grades. But they won't give a grade, they will just
put "Shipwreck Gold coin".

I doubt that these Gold coins will dent the market that much.
We got lots of people who would love to buy one or two of them.
I'd take one for myself if the price is not crazy.
