These magazines are starved for content. I prefer the greysheet for current news. When I want in depth articles, the Journal of the John Reich Society has good ones and no price lists or ads. Most of the commercial ones you find at B&N are just vehicles for dealer ads.

Depends on your interests too... for Canadian coins there is the CN Journal (sent to members of the RCNA). For coin errors, Errorscope is fantastic (sent to members of CONCECA). Sometimes, even local coin clubs can have very interesting monthly newsletters with articles from members.

Conder101- Thank you for sharing those resources!

Coinfrog- I'm probably going to join the ANA this weekend. Not really sure why I haven't up to this point. I purchased a year's digital subscription to Coin World, but the app was absolutely terrible. It crashed so much that I basically gave up after 2 months.

Pretty sure I am going to go the Coin World route— I found a deal on a subscription online! I am also planning on joining the ANA.

I just ordered a book from Amazon. Being a book, as opposed to a magazine or newspaper or even an online article, it won't have any advertisements. Still, it will have pricing info. The preview said they'll be plenty of color photos and background material. It was written by one of the big names, too. (Actually, I had thought he was gone.)

I visited my local B&N a few days ago and was very disappointed in the selection. Not only did virtually every book have mostly pricing info but lots of them had pages with holders for certain series (Whitmans). Also, there was not a single book on US currency which was what I was looking for.

Surprise! The Whitman Red Book series edited by Bowers does have ads in some of the books. I recently received the 5th edition book on Morgan dollars and there are ads in the back. Not overwhelming in number, but.......

As is usual, CoinFrog is right- get the Numismatist. I love the breadth of articles and connections to other collectible items they put in there each month.

That's true, but they are very closely related ads. It's not cologne or a vitamin supplement. It is very manageable and doesn't interrupt a through-read of the book.
