Now wait just one minute here Mr. I got 800 smackaroos tied up in that worn old sorry looking weak struck cent, since I bought one dangit their supposed to be absouloutely necessary :) Actually I only bought one because the RedBook, CPG, etc. got me all pumped on the 1922 no D die #2 strong reverse yadda yaddy yadda. It is a lame coin actually but come on its a major variety and without it something's missing. |

Some people have asked, what would be the point of including it, it's an error, it's a worn die.
For me, it's because the coin looks like it's a Philadelphia strike. In other words, it seems like that year, coins were minted in two different places (even though they weren't). So it seems to match the paradigm of Philly/Denver that is so prevalent in many years of the Lincoln series. That is, it's like magic.

It's not really an error, errors then to be "one of's", each one different. It isn't really a variety, a variety is a difference produced on every coin from that die. The early use of that die did have a mint mark. It's just a die state and stage. A very late die state die that they tried to extend the use of by repolishing, and they polished off the last traces of the mintmark created a new die stage. So it isn't a variety and it isn't an error, just a coin struck from a very worn out die.

I know, and if I could do it over I would have got the weak reverse 1922 no D and spent the difference on a quality 1914 D my example is VG 8:( and it ant that very good. Why hasn't crazybo chimed in on this topic?

Not interested. The strike is so weak that there are almost no details on Lincoln and it is just, well, blah. If I was to sink money in a Lincoln that was a true error I'd go for the 1955 DD. That coin in higher and lower grades just pops and I remember roll searching for it as a youngster. Never paid attention to the no D 1922.....

This topic has been a great read! I would rather find a 2017 "Plain".  I may get a '22 "No D" someday, but it will be the least important for filling the Dansco. I would much rather have a few LMC doubled dies than the '22.  In Memory of Crazyb0 12-26-1951 to 7-27-2020

Nice one Carl ... Very nice --------------------------------- When Dansco said plain ...I thought they were meaning this  I go back and forth wondering if I should crack this one out NGC has it as weak D ... I am thinking missing D   |
