Already 6 days into this, I think I can see a golden tone starting nearest the rim. A picture won't help yet, but it has been in and out with the dishes at least 15 -20 times. I know cause I do almost all the dishes around here. Every other day I run some hot water and drop it in a coin tube and screw down the lid for the night. Then it goes back on the soft cotton pad in a gift box to dry on the windowsill.
A watched pot never boils ... well, yes it does but a watched coin never tones. LOL

Yes, 2 or three times I wash the dishes a day. Definitely 2 at least. Breakfast and supper. My dishes and counter are very clean. LOL

About 12 days and I took a couple pictures of it at the windowsill on a gray day here this morning. I can see it has turned a bit golden toned and no real conclusion can be made. Whether it is the water or the windowsill or a combination of the two. I am just going to let it sit on the windowsill now and forget about it for awhile. No more water experimenting. Will update when I notice a drastic change in color. Before and After

Well it's coming along for only twelve days. Better results than my morgan in dirt experiment last year.

Unless you have well water, I suspect there is not much sulfur in your water. I imagine its the heat of the drying cycle that contributes to the accelerated toning. "Cereal tastes better with a silver spoon" LOL. Were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth? You just gave me a great excuse to tell my wife I want to buy some silver flatware. Honey, the food, it just tastes better!

The food DOES taste better with a silver plated spoon and yes, that's an old family tradition we had. Every kid got a baby spoon made of Sterling silver with engraved initials or name. I lost mine 30 years ago. I do have well water for those who have missed that. Lots of Sulphur in it but it is pretty well filtered. I do my dishes in hot water of course. It's best I forget about this dime for awhile. I think that the coating it has is already established maybe. I'll see what the sun does. ( Whenever we get some sunshine anyway. ) Rain galore.

I don't think my dime is going to change much anymore. I have a theory that the toning has made some sort of shield against it turning any further. It might be a little bit more golden toned than last time I updated but it seems it has stalled. Besides, this is almost as exciting as watching paint dry.
I bet that every coin would tone differently anyway. So, in this small study, I will conclude that the water did have some effect but nothing dramatic on this particular coin.
