Personally I use 2x2 although for my better coins I just love the Coin Edge Holders. You see the edge it is sealed at two points around the coin and around the outer edge. Note: larger coins only seal around the coin.

I like using 2 pc coinholders that are just the same size as the coin. I collect nickels mostly. Those that I have had in a a brand called "cointains" ( I think ) have remained spot free and the same color as when I put them in over 20 years ago. I also put them in a 2x2 after they are in a "cointain". This particular brand of plastic seems to be safe from causing reaction on surface of coins. I had an Indian set in a brown album that got green slime on the 1909 S and 1877 and some others in Red Unc condition. That really was a sin. I sold them off cheap at a show and asked the dealer buying the set to just please don't mention the green slime. I am very well aware of it. I like airtites best for important coins. Some of my clear flips are fine and 2x2's are OK for some cheaper coins but I believe the cardboard on 2x2's can absorb moisture and cause spots on coins. Also the the punch through from a stapler can cause some microscopic paper to land on the coin surface. Well that's my 2 cents anyway.

Quote: I had an Indian set in a brown album that got green slime... Was it a Harco Coinmaster Album? If so, then you made a good call to dump it. They had PVC pages in them with PVC slides the coins went into. Not a good place for coins. They later replaced the PVC pages with a different type, but they were very brittle and did not last long.

Was it a Harco Coinmaster Album? EXACTLY! Had some Buffs in another that suffered too. BTW did anyone ever come up with a treatment for the "green slime" ? Sometimes I run across a coin in a 2x2 that must have been in a PVC at one time or another. It later turns black. What macaroon came up with that idea? It has been a long time ago and I am over it now but it sure was a sad looking situation. I didn't hide anything in the deal and I actually got more than I expected. I thought maybe there was a fix for the slime that the dealer knew that I was unaware of then. Maybe he knew how to make something out of those coins and still make some money? I dunno.

A big thank you to all who participated in my poll. I have decided to go with 2x2s in PVC free pages.

What I like to do is store my coins in 2x2's and then store them in a binder with pages that store the 2x2's. It works well for me. I will occasionally put them in the free portfolios I sometimes get from ordering quarters, dollars, half dollars, ect.

I just did a back page and GONE! Crap! Here we go again. I just bought 500 Collector Safe black foam white backed snap closing 2x2's for my best 500 Jefferson and some Buffalo nickels. They do come with some cheesy stickers that are for date and grade but I won't use those. For the most part only about 1 in 25 is either scratched or has some defect on the white backing. That's OK, but hope the ratio gets better. I'm saving them so that I can maybe get an exchange later from the dealer. I am wondering if anyone else has used this type of holder and do they live up to the name?I have used the standard white 2x2's that are stapled closed for storing my 30 plus year accumulation. A small number of my nicks have been invaded by small amounts of green/brown verdigris, and some others have become hazed or carbon spotted. I have extras or will upgrade them for my main set. I just hope these holders will not react to my coins after the transfer. I've done 100 or so thus far and they look awesome in these holders. I wear a spray painters nose/mouth facemask and a dollar size cello windowed 2x2 to squeeze and manipulate these into place. This is very time consuming, but I will be glad when my collection is lined up back to back in storage boxes with some anti oxy packets and in my safe. Again, has anyone used these? I don't mind toning, but corrosion and reaction to the foam or plastic has me very concerned. Some of these coins were so much fun to find and I'd hate to see them get ruined. here's a link to what these look like.

I actually was thinking about those 2x2s. If I did I would have to drop them in 2x2x9 boxes. I just went with the 2x2 flips in pages and maybe I'll put my more valuable coins that I don't get slabbed in those plastic ones.

I have used 250 of these, so far. I kinda wish they were black foam on both sides. One side is white and it is difficult to get my coins in them to show both sides completely. Hard to explain. They don't come with instructions so I wondered if you should push the coin through the white side ( paper ) first until it is just flush. With some patience though they can look pretty good in there. These are not as good as a slabbed coin insert from PCGS or NGC. They show the coin so nicely, these seem to have the coin tilting one way or another from the black side so that is about all I have to say about them that is negative besides that an average of 1 per 25 is either scratched or has an adhesive stain on the paper. These plastic 2x2's will fit in a normal 2x2 box though which is what I will use instead of the white boxes they come in that is shown in the picture. Those I will save and use for shipping lots I plan to put together and sell of my duplicates.

I am telling you the CoinEdge Holders are great. You see the whole coin no distracting colors just the coin in a double sealed holder.

I was just wondering mostly ... if anyone had any negative storage issues with these holders on the appearance of the coins, such as, carbon spotting or corrosion or reactions with foam or plastic.

I have to say all 3. I use airtites for proof silver because I like the presentation and have to believe I'm storing them safely. I live in Florida and, so, have to take extra care. I also use plenty of 2x2's and store them in intercept boxes. Finally, I love albums as they show off complete sets nicely.
