I definitely missed all of that nuisance. Thanks to Bobby and the staff for being on top of things and keeping this a great place! Quote: What I mean is to reproduce to overload memory capability. I think what you may be thinking of, Crazyb0, is a DoS or DDoS attack. I'm pretty sure that's not what happened, but I don't have a lot of knowledge in that area.

Thanks for taking care of the spam attacks Bobby. Correct, there was no malicious software that was present, it was just members that were creating spam posts.

Quote: Does anyone know what if anything will happen to the low lifes that did it,legal wise I mean? I doubt that there is a feasible way to figure out what person or people actually caused that. From what I understand, the only thing that can be done is blocking specific IPs (which can be rerouted). I'm not claiming to be an expert with this, but I am interested in it. Quote: When that happens, it's nearly impossible to post. Quite the opposite of what happened. That's what I wanted to say, but I don't really know. An attack of that sort is meant to essentially "crash" the site so that normal users have no access because the server is overloaded with requests. I'm trying to learn. Quote: Usually the first thing people post after a spam attack. "We were hacked." If you posted that (you know who you are) STOP using the word now because you have no clue what it means. We are all concerned about the forum. Some have a clue and some don't but the motivation is the same. We are members of a coin forum, after all. I would also suggest not using ALL CAPS in a post. Just sayin...

The spammers were in South Korea. Nothing we can do except be proactive.
Stuff like this is attempted every day. I have lots of traps set for them. I thwart 90% of them from even registering. Of the remaining 10% 98% of those are thwarted when they attempt to post.
When something like this happens, I study the conditions of it and tweak the traps.

I was on the forum the morning this happened (unusual to be on that early but couldn't sleep). Being pretty illiterate in computer stuff I stayed out of this conversation until now. But I am curious why someone would do this. My guess is it's some pitiful, pimple-faced geek with no life living in their Mama's basement in Seoul, seeking acknowledgement. If it is more than that I'd be interested to know.

I am glad I did not experience that first hand. Its sad that any one would get a kick out of creating momentary mayhem and unhappiness for many. Those type of instigators actually have a very low self regard...
Bobby1313113 -- Thank you very much for providing this wonderful site. It is a joy to use!

When something like this happens, I study the conditions of it and tweak the traps. I'm sorry, but that actually sounds like fun to me. I guess it's too bad I didn't follow a more technical path.
