keep those 1946 pennys, don't give anyaway, they're the 3rd rarest
maybe one day you could sell one or trade for one on this forum :P since you have three, but remember they are rare
yours probably over $80

Hello. I have one here he marked au in one corner and ef in the other. Another has sorry $1100 sticker with U and D.C in the other corner. I have put the third somewhere in amongst this pile of 800 odd coins. Veronica

arr yes, au means About Uncirculated, uncirculated means like really good condition, no signs of wear, yes in au the 1946 penny is worth over $1400
the one with U should be worth more...

Ok veronica, your dad is like..  AU = Almost Unciruclated, EF= Extra Fine AU grades higher than EF, thats why you have a higher price quote for the AU than the EF.....  Cya around the forum.. It's been fun helping you, but I needa go study now.. Cya.. Edited by justabeginner

Hello. Thankyou for wverything. I am so confused. Where do I start. I have a plastic bag full of coins all in sleeves. There is 5cent, 10cent, half pennies, pennies. I found dimes, NZ, and other places. Any ideas please on how to arrange these? Veronica

Hi Dolly, welcome to the forum. It looks like you have quite an interesting and possibly valuable collection. If your intention is to keep the coins and appreciate them as your Dad did, then there is no need to be confused. There are plenty of experts here who will be more than willing to provide all the advice and information you need. Coin collecting is a passion, so learning about, and appreciating the coins is part of that passion. I personally like the time it takes to learn about and put together a collection, it is all a part of the hobby and helps me relax from my businesses. However, having said that, not everyone who inherits coins are interested in collecting them. If your intention here on the forum is to obtain information so you can sell them, then your best bet would be to take your time and post good high quality pictures. That way the experts here will be able to give much better advice and clearer indications of price. I am not sure if you know, but a coins value is based on a few variables. The rarity, condition, demand etc. Age is not necessarily an indicator of value. wow I could probably get about $60 for my sixpence mis-strike, and it's At least Unc. in a mint set with all the other 1962 pre-decs

Put them in albums, then you can sort and arrange them to your liking and they are great for showing off the collection. Not something you can do with a bottle very easily. Here's what I do. I get coin pages that hold 20 2x2s. They are available from most coin shops. For an album to hold the pages you have a choice here. I bought some cheap A4 4 ring binders from the Newsagent. I think they were about $4 each, colour of your choosing. Just put in as many coin pages as you want. You could also get some holed A4 sheets to put between the coin pages to write down any important coin info. There are more expensive coin albums available if you want like the Grande double padded leatherette covers. They are very beautiful but cost about $50. So far I'm just using the cheap newsagent binders. I have one for decimal coins.  One for predecimal coins.  And one for world coins.  Numis also make a little pocket book style coin album. It's small, compact and cute. Holds 60 coins in 2x2s and they cost about $16.  |

Some of my collection is in binders similar to Learjets. Coins that are just run of the mill stuff, aren't in 2x2's, just in coin pocket pages. I always make sure that the binders are D ring, either 3 ring D ring or 4 ring D ring. I find O ring binders too restrictive in the number of pages the folder will accommodate and pages in a D ring binder sit neater. I don't buy any Binders thicker than 38 mm, they get too heavy. I also don't store my binders upright, pages full of coins make the pages droop, so I store them flat. Don't be tempted to get Lever Arch Folders, they're not suitable. I also have 7 carry cases that have 2x2's in them. I got 3 from Bunnings ($11.00 each)& 4 from ALDI ($10.00 each). They're meant for say nuts, screws, washers, bolts & all small type things. Divided into multiple sections with removable plastic dividers, they are easy to carry around & can be stored standing up without the coins falling out or getting too messed up. I just keep each little section more than say half full, & don't have any problems. I saw some different ones at Bunnings ($12.00 each) yesterday, very much like the ones from ALDI. I've only ever seen these at ALD once & that was early this year. ALDI seem not to keep things in stock, just have specials & when they're sold out, that's it. NO More! life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

hey learjet, I have one of those Numis small cases, as well as Renniks Sheets in a black binder, I use 5 for stamps though...
