This is a coin I've wanted for some time. There are a few floating around out there. They tend to fall into two camps: Firstly, affordable coins that are not necessarily readily identified as S-215 and, secondly, coins out of my price range. This one is a good compromise. I didn't have to sell any of my children and it is clearly an (LDS) S-215.

With the Draped Bust Dollars out of most of our financial reach, the Draped Bust Large Cents are a fantastic alternative. Although, I have been selling them faster than I buy them...

I would have sold the children, thrown in the wife and bought a better grade. However, knowing the going rate for children and wives it wouldn't have been a much higher grade.

I can't see the crack and the date to the front of the bust from stage VII, but it does have the heavy clash on the reverse through OF and the bulging through STATES OF, plus the dies sinking through the TY of LIBERTY of stage VIII. So I would probably call it stage VIII. The missing crack on the obverse may just be due to the rough surfaces. Quote:

A problem free F-12 lists in an old copy of the price guide at $1000, a VF-20 lists at $3000, a VF-30 is $6000. And the VF-30 would be the fourth finest known. This variety has a very low condition census, a scudzy 10 coin ranks as the 15th finest known. |

Yeah that's why I noted the going children/wife exchange rate wouldn't have gotten him much better.

Will look closer when I have it in hand. By the way, per the seller, this coin was previously owned by both Fred Borcherdt and Bill Tivol. I don't usually care too much about that sort of thing but those are obviously a couple of big EAC names. Edited by Aoraki
