I hope they don't do this, or I'm just going to stop collecting moderns. This is ridiculous. I can't wait for their next series "Gas Station Rest Stops Off the United States Highway System 2016-2055. Collect all 1,488! Only from the United States Mint."

That's funny, Amazon 99 about rest stop quarters. We could call them Squatties. I like the new British coins http://www.businessballs.com/moneyslanghistory.htmThose look pretty good to me. Yes, I agree with someone else, we need to revamp some of our coins, and not just keep going with these series things so people will hsve all these worthless collections - unless you collect the silver ones, but still, they jack the prices up. But we shouldn't complain. These series of currency may be the final ones we get. I know the gov has talked about doing away with coinage altogether. But, I guess if they're making money on it, they'll keep on doing it. Just need to know what is worth collecting, and what ain't. The Modern commemoratives sure are going up in value - esp. the Jackie Robinson and some of the others.

The last thing "they" want is the Washington quarter- it is a throw back to when REAL money circulated, and America had wealth and value. The last thing the bankSTERS want is you thinking how your labor MIGHT be worth gold or silver- they prefer bank notes of debt vs. real wealth.
Myself, I've seen better SLUGS on the NYC subway compared to the trash I see being called money these days. Call me an old man, but trash is trash.
Bring back the DOLLAR, abolish the "federal" reserve.

When is this going to become law? Quote: Better start a quarter collection with the standard eagle reverse now, because they will be hard to find in just a few years So much to collect, yet small amount of funds available

Quote: When is this going to become law? Hopefully never! Okay, the State Quarter thing was cool, Westward Journey nickels were okay, Prez Dollars are probably a flop but it's still too early to tell, and we have the Lincoln Cent program next year. Enough already!

Veering off this topic and onto the ongoing Lincoln Cent Debate, here is an interesting quote from your link: Quote: Fascinating also is the clearly implicit commitment for the next several years at least to persist minting the increasingly pointless 1p and 2p coins, which since about 1995 even small children have been throwing away in the street when given them in change. My guess is that you could power a biggish town for a year on all the wasted time and effort that is consumed needlessly handling and processing these coppers. (The slang term coppers derives from pre-decimalisation days when pennies and ha'pennies were more substantial and popular copper coins. Since 1992 'copper' coins are copper-plated steel.) We (the US) are not alone!

"some" state park coins would definately be interesting.......but NOT re-doing the whole thing !!....There's nothing worthy of that in my state of Kansas !!

Frankly I think the National Park quarter dollar if it becomes reality will be a good thing. For no other reason than drawing non collectors to the hobby. Kids in particular may be drawn into the joy of collecting. I believe the change could be beneficial!

I remember when beanie babies where huge and then people quickly lost interest when they started releasing so many, people just stopped caring.

Hey hold on there I have many sealed bags of beanie babies from my now older daughters and your telling me they wont come back and be valuable? OH NO! Yes I believe many kids and adults will come and go from many hobbies coin collecting included. However, putting coins out to the public with a difference draws attention and hopefully interest if not for a long time even the short time is good. Who knows maybe they stick around. I just think change in "change" can be a good thing.

I remember that me and my sister estimated that our beanie baby collection was worth around $3,500(we didn't spend that much) based on a price guide they had. While I have good memories going on these hunts with my dad and sister, I kinda wish we invested into coins.

While I have good memories going on these hunts with my dad and sister, I kinda wish we invested into coins I would much rather have several coins than the beanie babies. The thing is my daughters would have nothing to do with those old boring quarters so I had to buy the beanie babies. Now if those quarters where of National Parks well then who knows maybe I would have bags of quarters instead of beanie babies. My point exactly

There are many wonderful National and State Parks that are worthy of being put into coinage.....some already have of course......but the discussion about doing EVERY state is where it loses me.

I've been thinking about that Jackie Robinson commemorative coin. They did baseball, but if you wanted to commemorate a milestone in the sports of say, American football, or basketball, who would be on those coins? Perhaps I should be in another area, or start a new thread. But if Jackie broke the race barrier in baseball, were their similar feats of greatness in football and basketball? How about Joe Namath guiding the Jets to the first-ever AFL victory? But it has to be about more than sports. It has to involve a change in national consciousness to stand head to head with the Jackie Robinson.

I think if they do continue the State Quarter series they should do the minor us territories like wake, midway, palmyra ect. That way people could learn more about them. I think if you do another 10 years it will be quite rediculous like canadian quarters are getting to be to many commemratives to count.
