Whew! What a relief it didn't involve Brasso and an 1909-S VDB! Of course, kids are more a treasure than any coin, great story!

I had the reverse happen to me and it was a less than fortunate outcome. My father wanted my Whitman folder with a partial collection of Indian cents. Yep, you guessed it...he used baking soda and water to get all that "dirt" off. I was not very happy about what he did and told him that he basically made them next to worthless (they were basically common stuff already).

Happy Birthday and Father's Day!! I love your story and your daughter sounds like a little love bug with a big heart to want to give you something special for being her daddy. Glad she hit up your change and not your collection! Thanks for sharing, I needed a Smile story today!

LOL! Great story. A helpful hint, one of my rules with my five year old is do NOT touch my coins without my permission.

I think I crapped my pants for you. I do not have a big collection, or much value in it, but I would have had a tough time calming down if it was me. I have started collecting again over the last few months and I have made sure that my kids know which coins they can have, look at and not touch at all. I have been getting lazy with them lately and would have guessed my kids to do something VERY similar to this.
