Probably a supermarket automatic checkout yourself machine would be best. Pay the exact amount in notes and coins. Machine may reject underweight badly worn coins. That may happen with those old Barber dimes, if they are too thin. Nobody would be bothered in seeing what you are trying to do.

Not coins but at coin shows I ask dealers if they have any coin folders or albums they don't want. I give all the ones I don't want to a grade school near me.

The problem with the automatic machines at the checkout or the coin star machines is that typically they will reject silver coins. Those are good ideas for Indian Head cents or Buffalo nickels though.

Salt them into rolls and bring them to banks. The problem with spending them is that the cashiers will generally just take them for themselves.

Quote: sorry if I didn't quote correctly. this forum seems to be running on ancient technology. It's like I'm back in the 90s. apologies for offending anyone, I'm just joking really. This forum definitely looks like a website from the 90s. Definitely loads really fast in my browser because of that. I think the best way is to spend them at a store. Coinstar will reject them.

-Go to the mall, drop one on the floor near a bench. Sit on the bench and see if someone finds it.
-Put it in the church collection plate.
-Leave as part of a tip at a restaurant.
If you deposit it at a bank, it may get run through a counting machine and rejected for the bank employee to find.

You can drop them into TIP JARS which are displayed at various stores or venues.

That's a great idea but I'm afraid these days it would have to be at least a quarter or nobody would stoop to pick it up. I see dimes on the ground all the time. Shame really, that they've lost so much value. If I were to do this, I'd give it at the supermarket on a Saturday. Cashier's are so busy, they'll never notice and they give out tons of change to people.

Some place where young (10 to 15 year old) impressionable kid can find it, not an adult... To spark his or her interest in the hobby.
