Not a Coin I'd buy raw. Circulation wear pattern seems a bit odd.

Looks convincing to me. Certainly a design I'm glad didn't survive!

It's a fine to very fine circulated proof.
It's rare but has a thin collector base.
The collectors of these want nice coins and can afford them.
That's how I arrived at a realistic wholesale value for it. Anybody that would pay 2k$ for it is flushing money down the toilet.
It is what it is.

Looks real to me, but I would never buy it unless I could inspect it in hand and it was in a TPG holder.

Not much feather detail left which is the best part. Where did you find it, 52Raymo? Did you acquire it? Hard to get anything even remotely rare for under $1k these days. What is this, if real, like a mintage of 100?

Oh I know it's a pattern, it's just that this pattern is highly counterfeited . I'm pretty darn sure it's real but I felt a need to check in here and get opinions.

Rick Snow showed me some of his early patterns at the recent ANA show in Irving, including this variety (in PR55 PCGS holder) and an 1858-dated IHC, along with something I've never seen (an 1871 or 1873? struck in the copper-nickel alloy used from 1859 to 1864.) It gives new meaning to "holding history in your hands." This is a coin that he would probably be interested in looking at and he would almost certainly be able to authenticate it.

It looks real but authentication is mandatory. ANACS might be an OK choice, certainly cheaper than PCGS or NGC. Interesting and historic coin and $600-$800 seems a reasonable value estimate. However, I expect most potential buyers would be willing to pay more to get a proof without wear.
