You would want to know what its weight is, is it plated, what the current spot price is. I collect the limited edition $10.00 slot tokens that are .999 silver. I pick them up at pawn shops and the LCS. since they are .6/7 of an ounce of silver ringed with a plated non precious metal. I buy them from $10.00 to $13.00 each slightly less in multiple tokens.As been said you have to be careful about the venue you are buying from. If ebay run away while holding you credit card! At the point of purchase Casino, they would be the current spot price point, plus a premium For what ever it cost to make and profit for the casino for the limited edition. On the secondary market again it based on spot price of the metal at the moment, plus what a buyer is willing to pay for the subject mater on the token. Or how bad somebody wants the item. Not having ever seen one of the gold ones. I would tend to think that there isn't a large collectors market for them. Gold coins, rounds and bars are a better investment the coins hold a higher value premium above the bars and rounds. they have price points closer to the spot price. Quote:

They would be hallmarked with what the material is like the silver ones. The Chinese ones look and feel and weigh close to a real one but are fakes in rounds and bars any item with a price is to good to be true is fake mostly on ebay. I have some more info.
Before 2001-2002, casinos used token for slot play. Denomination 1 to 1000 (or even 5000).
So those are not used today,and will never be used again.
The piece in question is in mint circulated in protective case.

The biggest reason the token/coin slots were phased out was operating costs, that cut into the profit margin. The cost to design,mint and handle and maintain them (they would have to wash them on a rotating basis). With the digital and paper machines it is a lot cheaper. The reasons the precious metal one weren't used in the machines is to purchase them they start out with a cost that is higher than there face value. And unless they are beat up the condition doesn't have much added premium to the price. Again for investment purposes Coins, USA,Canada, Swiss ETC. will hold higher premiums or the generic rounds or bars at a lesser premium. |

Short answer Yes, the price is way over the moon and further out in the galaxy. Even if it was the only one left it is way over priced. figure 3/4 oz of gold and 1/4 oz of silver at current spot If you bought it you would never get your money back. As I hqve said and other before me there is nothing important, special,or even interesting to add any precived value added to the original cost of the slot token.
At current spot you could get about 8.5 troy ounces of gold around 9/10 troy ounces of silver and still buy dinner.

How about the scarcity?
If no one has it, and chances are that maybe a hand full exist, and never be made again.
I've done searches, no one have one for sale.

Value is a composite of the intrinsic value... i.e. what you can get for the metal if melted and desirability. You are asking about the latter. If there is a demand... and everyone is clamouring for one of these... then the value will climb if there is a shortage of product. If no demand or if the supply exceeds the demand, then you are back to intrinsic value.
Just because there are none for sale, does not mean that there is a pent up backlog of folks looking for one and prepared to pay the asking price.
Diamonds are a classic case of this... Diamonds are not particularly rare but for years, the supply has been strictly controlled and as such, the price for diamonds is high... It will be interesting to see whether there is greater volatility in diamond pricing now that they are being mined and made outside of the historic cartel. I expect the price of diamonds to drop.

Just because somebody puts a silly price on ebay for an item it has no real bearing on what an item is worth. its archives are littered with overpriced items that won't sell. U.S. Postage stamps are a good example people who had somebody collect stamps have found out that single stamps in an album are worth more as postage, than what they can sell them for. Only the very rare ones are worth something and there price has been dropping as of late. Because the younger generation has little to no interest in them. You are beginning to sound like a person that is trying to make the case for the over price of an item for sale. Knowing the members on the assort6ed forums. I don't think you will change any minds or get any takers. |

Can you restate your question so it is clearer, as to what you want to know? Slot token were used before the larger casino moved to paper/electronic card reciepts instead of coin pay outs. Some of the smaller casino's still use tokens, the older tokens have a redeem by date and are now worth only what collectors will pay.
Generally the cupro-nickle tokens that have been cancelled are worth nothing at the casino's. And only worth what a collector will pay for them, Which is generally $1.00/$2.00USD. They may slightly more if the subject matter on them is of special interest to them.

Online gaming and gambling online offshore may not be legal in all states. Which I used when I was doing magic shows and parties. A lot of the casinos online that are offshore have a bad reputation as being rip offs and not paying winners. I haven't been inside a casino since the mid 1990's. My collection of slot gaming tokens casino chips and the limited edition silver tokens is from the local coin shop,pawn shops, flea markets. Besides saving me lots of money by not gambling. saved my hearing from all the noise of the casino floor . |
