Because you don't have the extra $19K to buy one?

I imagine that if anyone here had a real one they would be constantly stroking the coins side and muttering under their breath "my preciousss)

This gives new meaning to the term "Mint your own" that the Royal Australian Mint uses in promoting the portable press Mint Mark dollars.

Even with a small group of 40 members from Downunder, it would not surprise me at all, if someone do own one.

Nah, I am just your normal humble hobbyist with a collection that can only, at the very best, be looked upon as ordinary.

If it makes you happy no collection is "ordinary".

hmmm, better rephrase that:
If your collection makes you happy, it cannot be "ordinary"

Having just finished the book - which is very interesting. How do I insure to those on the forum that refer to me as "RG" that I am not Mr. G(ee) I like my fingers where they are

Ive seen 1930 Australian penny fakes go for over $250 I guess these must fun to keep. Or they just want to show off they have a 1930 penny to there friends. Just amazes me

The saddest thing is to make a passable 1930 fake an even rarer coin has to be used. Only the 1931 Dropped 1 Indian die penny has the same obverse and reverse as the 1930 and with an estimate of between 20 and 30 known....

I just would not risk my dollars buying big on a rare predecimal on the net.Only If it was from a reputable seller I would have second thoughts but do not buy from a stranger unless he would be confident that I can have a profesional assesment from my local dealer/s

I dont mind buying the sub $100 coins on the net but the big ticket items I'll be travelling interstate to purchase. I haven't decided if I'll be getting a 3d 21/22 overdate but if I do I hope to do so at auction just for the thrill of it.
