Hi All, Thanks for the nice words about the carvings. I actually do a lot of reverse carvings, I prefer to work on the back of the coin because it's lends itself more to my style and creativity. I carve about 8 different styles, using a number of different techniques to get the look I want for the coin I'm working on at the time. Best thing to do is to look on either of my webpages and you'll see more examples of the different carving styles or email me and I'll send you an invite to my hobo nickel group on Yahoo. You can also do a google search for thehobonickelguy (all one word ) or Mike Pezak to find my webpages. I'm trying to answer all your questions in one post so this will skip around a little bit. lol I don't sell my work on ebay, I really don't look on ebay but I've heard my nickels come up from time to time. As for the influx of carvers, I'm not really sure... I try to encourage new carvers just because this art form is 240 years old and I really don't want to see it fade away. I'm an artist and Jeweler and that's the approach I take for my work. |

These nickels can take from about an hour to 15 or 20 hours per nickel to carve and even after 20 hours you can always see more that can be done. While the carving time does play a factor in the nickel, subject matter also has a big part to do with the final nickel. Personally, I concentrate more on subject matter and creativity. The carving has to be done to a certain degree to make a carving nice but a well carved boring nickel is just a well carved boring nickel...an exciting nickel with a lot of character is much more interesting to me.

Well the easiest picture would be the before...lol I'm going to be out of town a lot this week, LA tonight then up to San Francisco but when I get back I'll do a carving and take pictures of it in the different stages of being carved and post them up so you can see.

Well I'll be home Thursday and you can come over and do the video and post it up...you have to remember my only claim to fame is my carving so I would have to carve the video and try to figure out how to load it up on here...since I'm very close to a computer clutz, I would have a really hard time figuring out how to do that...if you can walk me thru it I'll try my best. I just posted up a bunch of my pictures but they aren't showing up... they are in the coin form someplace and as soon as I figure out where they went I'll let you all know...man, carving coins is a lot easier that trying to keep track of where I post stuff.

Hi All,
I put more pictures of my nickels someplace on this website. I get the feeling that there are about 3 or 4 different places I'm posting in and have yet to figure out which one I should be posting in. All this puter stuff makes my head hurt.
Anyway, there are more pictures someplace...do a search and that's how I do it....remember...computers make life easier.
