Yes, I agree with Coop. If you can get pictures of your coin, that would be great.

I assure you out of the thousands of coins I've gone through this is one of a kind.
Now it's not a die break or anything like that. If a grading service will not recognise it then how did the close and Wide AM pennies become documented? This is a coin error that until that point had not discovered
I would love to know how they 'proved' themselves worth to get their new error coin graded

I will just get my documents ready and send off to PCGS. If I have to repay to prove the authentication or whatnot then I will. I guess I'll take my chances shipping it. I will release the pics once I have sent it off to be graded to those that would like to see it may. Until then I'll be keeping things on the low. Stay posted. Thanks.
Goodnight all.

Posting pictures here first might save you money, time and disappointment.

But hey, it's your call! Good luck!

If you're wrong though, than you'll be wishing that you listened to us and posted pictures. Do it at your own risk! If you're wrong, then just learn your lesson from it.

I highly suggest posting pics of it here first. If you do have something new, your identity is protected and you can still submit it to whatever TPG you choose.

I suspect you are about to waste some money, though.

Haha! I don't know Crazyb0. I'm just very knowledgeable, because I've done a ton of research on my own. I'm able to retain newly learned information pretty well. I'm a coin nut!

A particular example was in this month's Numismatist -- the story of the Vietnam vet who discovered the W mintmark on some 1999-dated $5 and $10 Gold Eagle bullion issues. The mistake happened when Philadelphia accidentally (or perhaps on purpose) sent some unfinished Proof dies to West Point, because production was falling way behind ahead of the perceived Y2K 'apocalypse' consumer demand and Philadelphia couldn't keep up.

The TPGs steadfastly refused to grade the discovery coin, look at it, or even agree that it might be a possibility; as they put it, 99% of "great discovery" stories tend to consist of them having to disappoint someone who thinks they struck it rich, so rather than even consider that this was a 1% exception, they just blew the guy off. Finally, after 8 attempts (!) Fred Weinberg agreed to look at the coin and was shocked to discover that it was real and the first of its kind ever discovered. It wasn't until Mr. Weinberg gave his blessing that the TPG's agreed to certify the coin and create the new variety (ICG and PCGS being the first two) -- it also received a Fivaz/Stanton number (FS-401) making it "official" so to speak.

Weinberg ended up acquiring over 1,500 of the $5 and $10 coins, mostly from original rolls -- that being said, PCGS has graded over 2,500 examples, and a MS-70 graded example has a PCGS price guide value of $3750.

The point, however, is that prior to a recognized expert in the field vouching for the discovery, the TPG's did not want anything to do with it. That's why it is important to have people (e.g. coop) who really know what they are doing review any potential new finds because otherwise the TPG's are not likely to listen, or believe, the average casual collector or non-collector.

@paralyse
So are you saying #coop is God of the Coin World? No offense but he didn't even read my question right. I'm not looking for other people to 'see if I got something or not'
I know exactly what I have in my possession and could care less about flaunting it just yet. Something tells me guy with the 180k penny didn't flaunt his.
But as for what you provide. Thank you for the information. Highly appreciated
This is what I was concerned with. Mine is very easy to clarify as I can send in proofs that show the difference. Any coin will show the difference of that year.
So now I just have to get them to actually Look at the coin instead of read the cause of grading and laugh. But if I have to I will send in as many times as need be. All it will take is for one grade to say
, OK, what do we have.
Rest in Peace

I have slight paranoia sending a coin off in the mail with a high value as such.

You could save yourself a lot of stress (and possibly postage) by posting pictures and letting the experts here give you some advice.
