Wheat cents are not easy to find anymore.

I am trying to get the mint varieties for the one cents but not the quarters or dollars. Fortunately I have a good chunk of the wheat cents already from a couple of older collectors who passed them on. I'll probably have to get most of the remaining ones from other sources. I am in the U.S. at least two more times this year, so hopefully I can get more rolls to look through.

Why is it that 2009 cents will be almost impossible? I found a couple, but was surprised that I didn't see a lot more given that the total mintage is over 2 billion.

Not to hijack, but my 17 yo son has found 18 wheat cents at work in the till since Sept. of last year.
He's also found 5 silver dimes and 2 buffalos. Funny thing is, he's not a coin collector.

Average for me when I quit hunting a few years ago was about 12 wheats per box.

I was back in the U.S. this past weekend. This time Boston. I picked up another 10 rolls of quarters and 10 rolls of pennies. I managed to check off a number of the state and ATB Quarters I was looking for. Just left with American Samoa, Guam, Missouri and U.S. Virgin Islands. I'm surprised I didn't find a Missouri, but not about the others. I was happy to find Puerto Rico and Northern Mariana Islands.

From the pennies I was only able to knock off three on my list. I did find 3 wheat cents, which I already had. Including the one I found in the previous 10 rolls, that works out to 4 in 1000 or 0.4%. I have not come across any 2018 pennies yet.

The bank I went to didn't have any rolls of dollar coins. I ended up going to a shop and buying a bunch of the more recent presidents who didn't circulate. Only missing W.H. Harrison and Lincoln from circulation, and the first five that didn't circulate.

2009 cents. In relative terms I see a consistently decent supply of them. Yes, the mintage numbers are lower than other 'modern' LMC and shield cents, but I come across an average of 15 per box. Wheat cents are a different matter. I'm fortunate to get 2 or 3 per box.

I didn't have too bad a time getting 2009 cents and quarters however the struggle is real with nickels and dimes.for quarters the 2009-2012 were hard, especially the first 3 designs of 2012 which have the lowest mintage in a long time. 2012D Acadia national park maine... mintage 21,606,000 mintage. It doesn't get that low unless you go back to the silvers.

Anyways seems like you're keeping at it, and you should be able to do well as long as you do and just keep the search up. The silver dimes and quarters will be difficult though.. good luck.

I found myself back in PA for work. It was a short trip and I didn't have time to go through rolls while I was there so I picked up 5 of each nickel, dime and quarter and brought them back to Canada to search. Through experience I now know what banks to ask. The teller at the bank I went into didn't bat an eye when I asked for the rolls. I kept it to a reasonable number, but probably could have got more if I wanted. Just didn't want to weigh down the luggage too much.

I didn't find anything too interesting, but did fill a handful of holes in each of my albums.

I'm hoping to get out to CA in November. There are a number of D mintmarks I still need.
