The majority of the proof coins in my Dansco albums were once in the proof sets that I had bought directly from the mint.

Hi just a thought, when you put a proof into a collection it sometimes makes all the other coins (no matter how good they are) look like loose change and sometimes anal retentive s like me just never get satisfied. regards Roger

Roger, Your point is good! But your point also keeps me motivated to upgrade my less attractive coins. My little pursuit for perfect that I know doesn't exist.. lol.

I usually approach them slowly, no startling moves. I then talk very calmly not to upset them until they are comfortable with me handling them. After awhile when they least expect it, I crack them babies out!

Or you could receive a proof set (in my case one of three) that came pre "cracked" by the fulfillment center or the mint or DHL or the USPS. Yes these proof sets all where handled by four entities. Who Cracked the one set I duno.Who - hes on first. Anyway the set is back on its way to the fulfillment center via the USPS.
Just another way to crack a proof set!

Intersting......all of it. I have a lot of books to fill with sets of things but none of mine have spaces for proof coins. Just a space for each year and mint mark. Weird. Dont know if its good or bad that way, but thinking the search for proofs would drive me insane eventually. lol

It is hard enough on the other side of the world to get any US coins at all and with postage rates every purchase needs to be a wise one. My wife has NOOOOO sense of humour when it comes to spending money buying money. regards Roger

malisadawn, Dansco Supreme Albums are available with or with out proof spaces. My benchmark was set fairly high by my Grandfather and his 50+ years of collecting. The collections looks absolutely beautiful when complete. I is not a race for me. I enjoy each coin I find or purchase. It truly is the journey, not the necessarily the destination, that I enjoy. Icon, I def understand your situation. I buy and sell coins online and the cost of postage is getting silly high here in the states. I guess that is one of the the trade offs you have living in a beautiful country like Australia. p.s. I won't tell your wife what you spend, your secret is safe with us...lol.

Hi, many thanks for your comments. I just sent my wife to the Post Office to pick up another ebay parcel (I told her it could be cosmetics) but it is not. Yes, I agree Dansco Supreme are great and I buy them blank and use a clear labeller for the years/mint marks/mintages and it looks great and informative (as it should). I still get a buzz with every delivery and use my desktop magnifier/lamp to it's fullest to scrutinise every coin and upgrade my sets. Once again, thanks all. regards Roger

Quote: Iconcoins said.... My wife has NOOOOO sense of humour when it comes to spending money buying money I've run into the same thing with my girlfriend.......she has more than once pointed that out..... and right in front of people too ! But if you can buy a Lincoln Cent 1909 S VDB for $850.00......and it's only a cent face value yeah....but .....I explain to her how nonsensical her "comment" is each and every time to no avail really... ....she just furrows her brow and continues shopping....looking for bargains .....
